The McLain's

My photo
Our journey began October 2005 when we met in our Single's class at Prestonwood Baptist Church. We were engaged in June 2006 and were married on November 17, 2006. JP works for ROMCO as a Product Support Sales Manager and I will begin teaching part-time for the Dallas International School in August 2011. We have one little boy, Merit Cross. God has truly blessed our family.

Scootering with Mimi

We sat on the porch, enjoyed a home made orange popsicle, and did a little scootering before the storm blew in. I was a little anxious about this storm after the damage Oklahoma received yesterday. However, we were fortunate and the storm did not hit us like we thought it might. After nap time, Mimi came over for dinner and to spend the night since Daddy's out of town. Merit really loved scootering with Mimi. I'd say it was definitely the highlight of his day!

Memorial Day!

We enjoyed lots of family time on Memorial Day this year. We had a lazy morning at the house, then Merit and I went to visit Mimi. After Merit's afternoon nap, JP and I took Merit to the splash pad and the playground. It was a wonderful day!

Saturday Outing

I took Merit and his sweet friend Matthew to the Galleria for the Saturday kids show and lunch. These two boys had so much fun together!

Cupcake Liner Watercolor Flowers

These flowers turned out so pretty! Merit loves using watercolors so I knew he'd enjoy this craft. I spread the liner out for him somewhat flat so it would be easier to paint. He went to town with the paints, we let it dry, I squished it up a bit so it would look more like a flower, glued it to the paper and then we glued a green pipe cleaner to the flower for the stem. Fun!

Swimming with Nana

We so enjoyed spending time with Nana on Friday. We spent a bit of time in the pool but the majority of the time was spent eating and playing inside. It's always a treat for us when Nana is home from Midland!

Cute New PJ's

Merit loves these new pj's from Grammy and Papa 'D'. He really needed pajamas too because he has literally outgrown all of the ones he has. He keeps telling me he doesn't want to get rid of his old ones because he really likes them. So, he has continued to wear several pairs where the pants are way too short. It looks so funny! He doesn't seem to care one bit though. ;)

Lone Star Classic 2013

We had an amazing weekend at the Lone Star Classic at Texas Motor Speedway! We really enjoyed spending time with Papa 'D'. The weekend included time at the pool, adventures exploring the hotel grounds, eating at Hard 8 BBQ, viewing beautiful corvettes at the show, and the highlight of the weekend was the "track day".  J.P. is a wonderful driver and I got to be his passenger! We made some wonderful memories!

Surprise Mail from Poppy

Merit received mail from Poppy today and he couldn't wait to open it! Poppy sent him a really interesting book about dogs and the history behind each specific breed. Thank you Poppy!

Adventures in Playgrounds

We are on a mission to find the best playgrounds in the area and this one was well liked by Merit! This is a playground and park area in Farmers Branch.

Pretty Summer Kite Craft

I always have a ton of tissue paper! In fact, I like to keep used tissue paper so I can use it for crafts at a later time. For this kite, I cut a diamond shape out of white card stock first. I then cut a bunch of squares out of the tissue paper. Merit and I went for a blue theme with this project. I cut and he glued the squares onto the diamond. I cut a long strip of tissue paper to make the tail of the kite. It looks so pretty hanging in our kitchen window. The sunlight really makes the colors show through. This pic is kind of dark so you can't see it quite as well.

Hopscotch and Star Wars

We definitely don't like it when Daddy is gone but we do enjoy having Mimi visit us! Merit really loves the extra attention and fun. He wants Mimi to bathe him instead of Mommy. Too funny. :) He says, "No, I want Mimi to do it." On this evening we played hopscotch, one of our new favorite games, and we watched a classic, Star Wars. JP and I decided it was the right time to introduce him to this movie. He held his light saber the entire time and really enjoyed every minute of this!

Carnation Experiment

I bought a carnation plant this year and couldn't wait to use it for this experiment with Merit. He really loves doing anything that involves food color. We cut three flowers and Merit mixed up three colors. Then, for the next few days we watched as the flower drank up the color. The color that was most prominent was the blue. What fun!

Homemade Bath Paints

We saw this easy recipe on Pinterest and couldn't wait to try it out! Merit was pretty excited about taking a bath and using these paints. They worked well but only for the first few days. I think they are meant to be used immediately because if you let them sit for a week of so then the cornstarch separates. You end up with paint that you have to stir and add water to in order for it to be usable. So, I'd definitely make this again but remember that it's best used when fresh!

Cars & Coffee

Daddy is finally home from his trip this week and Merit couldn't wait to spend time with him! We started our weekend with time together at Cars and Coffee and then breakfast at one of our new favorite spots!
