The McLain's

My photo
Our journey began October 2005 when we met in our Single's class at Prestonwood Baptist Church. We were engaged in June 2006 and were married on November 17, 2006. JP works for ROMCO as a Product Support Sales Manager and I will begin teaching part-time for the Dallas International School in August 2011. We have one little boy, Merit Cross. God has truly blessed our family.

Haircut Day!

Merit does a great job sitting still for the stylist. They always compliment his good behavior and ability to follow their directions. However, lately he is pretty ready for the haircut to be over. So, he's now been telling the stylist that is looks like she's done. His stylist got the biggest kick out of this bit of advice. What a cutie!

Books Galore!

Our house is overflowing with books these days! This boy just can't seem to have enough of them. We go to the library every Friday to check out new books and he has a library full of them in his room. The bottom picture shows the tall tower of books that JP and I found late last night on his table. Too funny!

My Sweet Boy

Need I say more. Look at this sweet face. What's not to love?! He is so cuddly with us and I hope that doesn't change for a very long time!

Car Wash Time!

I couldn't wait to get my car washed this week. We have had so many days of rain that it's made it hard to want to wash it knowing that we would get rain the next day again. So, with no rain in the forecast, Merit and I set out for the car wash. He used to complain about going and beg me not to go. He was just a tad uncomfortable with the whole process. However, he now enjoys it and really likes watching my car go through the tunnel. He is definitely a car man; just like Daddy!

Tuesday Play

We always enjoy our morning walks together. We talk about all of the beautiful things God created. Merit also likes to say, "Good morning" to everything. "Good morning trees, birds, squirrels, etc. It is really adorable. When we get to the playground we usually find a few good white rocks so we can draw on the sidewalk. What a great start to the day!

Harvest America 2012

What an incredible event to see! We have been looking forward to this day for a long time! Both JP and I are big fans of Greg Laurie and his Harvest ministry. We both enjoy listening to his sermons and reading his daily devotions. It was a memorable evening indeed! Many lives will surely be changed by this event!

Make-up & Cars???

This little guy is so creative! I love to watch him play. As I was getting ready for church today he turned my various make-up items into cars and trucks. He made the car sounds and told me there was a traffic jam. Too funny!

Treasure Display

We mixed up a salt dough for our Destin treasures display. I tinted the dough a blueish color to mimic the color of the ocean. Merit had so much fun picking out different shells to press into the dough and we ended up with a beautiful display!

Edy Visits!

Our friends Paul and Bridgette came to Dallas to visit and we finally got to meet Edy. She is absolutely precious and so sweet! Merit had a great time showing her all of his toys and how they work. He did pretty well sharing his toys too! It was a special evening!

Peanut Butter & Honey Krispie Treats!

Merit is such a great helper in the kitchen. He really likes to add chocolate chips to the batter and to taste test for me too. I will post this recipe because it was delicious!

He was pretty pooped after a busy morning cooking and making crafts. Time to relax for a bit.

Peanut Butter & Honey Krispie Treats

Yield: 2 dozen bars

Prep Time: 15 minutes

1 cup granulated sugar (You can reduce the sugar if you’d like)
1 cup honey (I prefer to use local honey)
1 cup peanut butter (I use light peanut butter)
6 cups Rice Krispy cereal
1 cup chocolate chips

1. Spray a 13×9-inch pan with Pam spray; set aside. Place sugar and honey into a 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to boil. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter until melted and combined. Add the cereal; stir well until well coated. Press the mixture into the prepared pan. (Tip: I use a small square of wax paper to press these into the pan – easier to press into an even layer and it won’t stick to the wax paper.)

2. Melt the chocolate either over a double boiler or in the microwave at 70% power in 30-second increments. Spread evenly over cereal mixture. Let sit until firm (or refrigerate for a faster setting time).

3. Enjoy!

Library Day!

It looks like Friday will be our official library day this school year. I am so excited about having two days per week totally free! Yea for a great schedule! What a blessing! Merit absolutely loves going to get new books; actually he seems a little obsessed with reading books lately. That's okay with me though! :)

Look who joined us for our morning walk today! Snuggies!

After I finished teaching for the afternoon, we went for a swim. Merit really likes going to Brenda's house to swim!

Stencils + Paint + Cookies Cutters = Fun and Pretty!

I made a few car stencils for Merit to use because he saw me using one when I painted a car on his table. He really enjoyed doing this! After we painted using the stencils we tried painting with cookie cutters. This was really fun too and we made some nice art. We used the airplane cookie cutter to make a card for baby Trey. So cute!
