The McLain's

My photo
Our journey began October 2005 when we met in our Single's class at Prestonwood Baptist Church. We were engaged in June 2006 and were married on November 17, 2006. JP works for ROMCO as a Product Support Sales Manager and I will begin teaching part-time for the Dallas International School in August 2011. We have one little boy, Merit Cross. God has truly blessed our family.

Our Nightly Routine

Merit looks forward to picking out books to read every night. However, sometimes he tells me to pick out the books. We read three books and then it's his turn. He has been memorizing lots of his books so he can read to us and Snuggie. He most recently memorized "Quick as a Cricket". It is so cute to listen to him recite books! What a smart boy!

Flight Museum Visit!

We had so much fun visiting the Frontiers of Flight Museum on Saturday. Papa, Mimi, and Nana met us there and they were pretty excited about seeing the museum too! Go if you haven't been! It is the perfect outing for adults and kids. Merit had a great time in the museum and in the kid's area! We took advantage of the "Museum Day Live" event and therefore we all got in for free!

IKEA with Nana!

Nana spent part of the day with us on Friday. We had a great time taking Nana to IKEA for the first time! She loved it! Really she was like a kid in a candy store. Neither one of us left empty handed. The deals there are hard to resist! After our shopping trip we enjoyed lunch together and then Nana wanted to play with Merit's new birthday toys. We absolutely adore Nana and always enjoy spending time with her!

Terrific Tuesday!

I love my Tuesdays with Merit. We always have so much fun! Today, we went grocery shopping, to a new playground and he helped me with the laundry. Ha! He tried to help anyway. What a sweet boy!

Hot Air Balloon Festival

We took Merit to the hot air balloon festival in Plano on Sunday evening. It was way too hot in my opinion for late September however, we still had a great time! Merit really loved the parachute team, especially the men that carried the flags. The hot air balloons completely amazed him and he really liked how colorful they were. It was a fun and memorable evening.

Friends + Park = Great Fun!

After our doctor visit, we met Debbie, Ashleigh and baby Madelyn at Cottonwood Park for a picnic, feeding the ducks and a little time on the playground too. Ashleigh and Merit are hilarious together! They totally crack each other up and really laugh constantly. These are just a few of the cute pictures I captured while we were there.

3 Year Check-Up!

Today we went for Merit's 3 year check-up. I can't believe he is already 3 years old! The time is definitely going by way too fast! His check-up went great. No shots and he is growing like a weed. Mimi always enjoys us coming to her office and Merit likes getting to see Mimi in action.

Same & Different

This is a fun craft for teaching same and different. I gathered dry foods like, pasta, cereal, beans, etc. We glued three of the same food on our paper and then one food item that was different. Merit had so much fun doing this!
On this morning, we also made a birthday card for Poppy. Merit added lots of Hot Wheels stickers. I know Poppy will love it!

Beautiful Fish!

On Tuesday we visited The Fish Gallery on Greenville Avenue. It is a great place to go and it's free! :) They have a beautiful Coy pond outside and remarkable fish inside. We saw eels, stingrays, and very large Discus fish, just to name a few. Merit could not get enough of this place! We had been to the doctor earlier that morning and the Fish Gallery is right down the street from the doctor office.
Here is the link in case you want to visit:

Picnic Lunch with Mommy

The weather was beautiful on Tuesday so Merit and I decided it was a perfect day for a picnic lunch on the patio. Merit really liked that the recycle trucks came by as we were eating and he got to hear them and he could see them when he stood on his play set. Notice the picture where he is covering his ears. We had a great time and a wonderful day together!

Bye Bye Luke :(

Alicia, Marc, and sweet Luke stopped by to say goodbye on their way back to Houston. We really hated to see them go. Look how cute Luke is wearing his yellow construction hat!

Uncle Marc helped design a neat train track while he was at our house.

He also showed Merit how to play with the Brilli ball from Sharon & Dave. It is really a wonderful gift!

The Guests

Lots of our friends and family came to celebrate Merit's birthday with us! We had a packed house!

My dear friend, Brenda came by to wish Merit a "happy birthday".

We had a full house and a full yard! The parents really enjoyed watching the kids run the obstacle course!

Mimi was of course with us to celebrate.

Cute picture of Papa with the birthday boy.

Ms. Brenda even came to the party! We were thrilled that she joined us!

The Gifts

Once again this year, Merit did not open all of his gifts. He opened maybe half of them and then told me he was ready to go play and that he was done with opening gifts. I started having flashbacks from his party last year. Oh my. So, he played for a bit and then came back and opened the rest. These are pictures of some of his favorite gifts.

Really neat race track carpet from Mimi & Poppy!

Uncle Marc & Aunt Alicia made Merit his first tent!

His first baseball, glove and Phiten necklace from Mommy & Daddy

New metallic Hot Wheels cars from Grandma & Pimpa

A really neat dress-up doctor set with all of the necessary equipment

His first collectible model car from Mommy & Daddy

His first wooden train set from Mimi & Poppy

Neat Disney 3-D puzzles from Grammy & Papa 'D'

Brilli ball from Sharon & Dave. This was a big hit with Merit!

He really likes taking naps in his tent.
