Vacation Day 8 - Trip up Pike's Peak

Construction on our way up the mountain; they are paving more of the gravel roads!

Merit looking at the Crystal Reservoir; it was beautiful!

Funny statue of big foot!

We made it all the way to the top!

You can also take the cog railroad to the top if you don't want to drive.

Wow! We were up very high! 14,110 feet!

The conductor let us go inside and let Merit sit at the wheel!

Aunt Joni was such a great tour guide! She drove us back down the mountain. :)

Beautiful flowers growing above the tree line!

Driving up to Pike's Peak was an awesome experience! What a great way to end our vacation in Colorado! It took close to an hour to get all the way to the top. I told Merit he is very lucky to have already been to the top of one of the highest mountains in Colorado! J.P. became pretty nervous once we got passed the tree line. The steep drop offs really freaked him out. He started driving in the middle of the road in order to be as far away from the edge as possible. I urged him to let Joni take over but he didn't feel it was safe to pull over. We made it to the top and then Joni drove us down and Merit fell fast asleep. Thank goodness for Aunt Joni! The views from the top of Pike's Peak were amazing!
